The podcast has listeners from more than 16 countries globally. The top four countries include the United States, Canada, Germany and the U.K. The podcast has grown by over 208% since last year and we have a very loyal following. We had a fantastic year and we are grateful to all of our listeners who subscribed and tuned in week after week. PayUp: The Future of Women and Work with Reshma Saujani
Reshma Saujani was named a Holistic Wealth Trailblazer by the Institute on Holistic Wealth in March 2022 to culminate with the release of the new Holistic Wealth Expanded and Updated book. In this episode, Reshma discussed her parents’ immigration journey to the United States in 1973 as refugees from Uganda. Three generations of her family lived in Africa – Idi Amin, former Ugandan President and dictator, who gave Ugandans three days to leave the country. Reshma discussed their journey of assimilation and struggle, and also their immense gratitude to their new country. We also discussed her work on the Marshall Plan for Moms and Girls Who Code and women balancing life and work. Reshma also shared the results of the personal financial identity quiz and her insights on her own personal financial identity were amazing. As Reshma indicated “I hated that money had so much control over our lives so I really tried to have a detached relationship with money. I graduated with 300,000 in student loan debt and that debt made a lot of my choices, so I keep it simple”. Reshma went on to describe the support from Meghan Markle. 2. Advancing Health Equity with Dr. Uché Blackstock
Dr. Uché Blackstock, was named a Holistic Wealth Trailblazer by the Institute on Holistic Wealth in March 2022 to culminate with the release of the new Holistic Wealth Expanded and Updated book. Dr. Uché Blackstock and her mother were the first black mother and daughter to graduate from Harvard University in medicine. As Dr. Uché Blackstock mentioned, “when there is racism in healthcare it leads to death”. In this episode, we discussed medical racism, diversity and racially inclusive workplaces in healthcare as well as providing racially competent care. 3. How To Cope With Rising Inflation and the High Cost of Living with Keisha Blair
In this solo episode on rising inflation and the high cost of living, I offered various strategies to cope. This episode was published in early 2002, during Black History month and I also mentioned during this episode how difficult it is for Black female authors to succeed because of various barriers in the industry. Inflation and high prices continued throughout 2022 and is forecasted to also continue through 2023. There are high rates of financial anxiety as well as money trauma due to the pandemic. Unresolved money trauma in particular can wreak havoc with your finances and overall well-being. 4. Better Sex Through Mindfulness With Dr. Lori Brotto
Sexual health is such an important part of our overall physical health, it contributes directly to our well-being and quality of life, and it can have a significant ripple effect on our lives – so it’s a core component of our general quality of life. Dr. Lori Brotto is a Professor in the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and a Registered Psychologist in Vancouver, Canada. She has been the Executive Director of the Women’s Health Research Institute of BC located at BC Women’s Hospital since 2016. Dr. Brotto holds a Canada Research Chair in Women’s Sexual Health and was featured on the Netflix series “The Principles of Pleasure”. In this episode, we discussed the role mindfulness plays in sexual intimacy, and the common thread with optimal sexual encounters is that mindfulness and being present was a critical part of optimal sexual intimacy. 6. The Racial Wealth Gap and The Legacy of Colonialism with Danté Stewart
The racial wealth gap and the legacy of colonialism was a hot topic in 2022 given the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and it’s expected to be an important one heading into 2023. Danté Stewart is an award-winning writer, speaker and author of Shoutin’ In The Fire: An American Epistle. Named by Georgia Writers Association as “Georgia Writer of the Year” 2022 (Memoir); by The Center for American Progress as one of “22 Faith Leaders to Watch in 2022”. We discussed the issue of spiritual renewal (a critical part of holistic wealth), reparations, white supremacy and racism, as well as Black women’s maternal health. As Danté stated on the Holistic Wealth podcast, “A critical part of loving another person is courageously listening to the things that affect them”. As Danté stated on the podcast with regard to economic reparations: “reparations need to be multi-faceted because our oppression was multi-faceted. Candice Benbow is a multi-genre theologian who situates her work at the intersections of beauty, faith, feminism and culture, giving voice to Black women’s shared experiences of healing and journeying toward wholeness. Reimagining how faith can be a tool of liberation and transformation for women and girls, she challenges Black women to think critically about how they see God, themselves and the world. 8. Creating New Equality Rules in the Workplace with Shelley Zalis, Founder of the Female Quotient
Shelley Zalis, known as the “chief troublemaker,” is a pioneer for online research, a movement leader, and a champion of gender equality. She is an internationally renowned entrepreneur, speaker, mentor, mother, and founder and CEO of The Female Quotient. Zalis rewrites the rules and innovates solutions to impact real change. In 2000, she left the corporate world to found OTX (Online Testing Exchange), which became one of the fastest-growing research companies in the world. 9. Anti-Black Racism, the Racial Wealth Gap with Andre Henry
Andre Henry was studying theology when the killing of Philando Castile by the Minneapolis Police Department triggered an awakening that caused him to become a spokesperson for social change: bearing the good news that “it doesn’t have to be this way.” For several months, he lugged a 100-pound boulder around the Los Angeles area, to visually express the pressure anti-Black racism can exert on the Black psyche–even on stage at popular venues like The Mint and The Hotel Cafe while singing original songs about Black life and social change. He began voraciously studying the history of racism and nonviolent movements for social progress. In this episode, we discussed anti-Black racism, the racial wealth gap and income inequality. 10. How To Prepare For A Recession in 2022 And #Recessionproof Your Life with Economist and Bestselling Author, Keisha Blair
In this solo episode, I discussed ways in which everyone can benefit from recession planning. I also spoke about the benefits of having a Holistic Wealth PortfolioTM as a critical part of recession planning, with a financial plan included. In your financial plan, you need a budget as well as an investment and a savings plan, as well as your personal mission with your goals and values. It also takes into consideration, planning for two setbacks per decade, to make you highly resilient and less susceptible to financial shocks. At the Institute on Holistic Wealth, I train Certified Holistic Wealth Consultants to help others to do this, and I also do customized training.
